The same clean laundry but ready to wear
Wash & iron is wash & fold with the last, most annoying step done for you. Your everyday clothes are washed exactly the same way in your own separate load but instead of being folded, they're finished under a steam press and returned on hangers. Crease-free. Ready to pull off the hanger and put on.
It's the service for anyone who's fine doing without a dry cleaner for their cottons but is quietly sick of ironing. Which, if you own more than five formal shirts and work five days a week, is a genuine chore, a shirt takes four or five minutes to iron properly, and a working week is five shirts, and nobody's Sunday evening improves for spending half an hour of it at an ironing board in Kolkata's heat.
We take that off your list. Collected from your door, washed, steam-pressed, back on hangers within 48 hours, priced by the kilo. And, the part that matters most and that most services skip your clothes are washed on their own, never batched with a stranger's.
Why steam, not just a hot iron
Here's the difference most people never think about, and it's the reason a properly pressed shirt holds its shape through a Kolkata workday while a home-ironed one wilts by lunchtime.
A dry household iron works by force and heat you press the crease flat. It looks sharp for an hour and then the fibres, which were never actually relaxed, spring back. Add Kolkata's humidity and the crease is gone before you reach the office.
Steam pressing works differently. Steam penetrates the fabric and relaxes the fibres before pressure is applied, so the fibre is reshaped rather than just flattened. The result holds. A steam-finished collar stays crisp, a trouser crease survives a commute, and a cotton shirt keeps its shape through the day rather than through the first hour.

The same promise as the rest of our laundry, and worth stating plainly here too: your clothes are washed as their own separate load, never mixed in with other customers'.
Most per-kilo services batch loads to keep costs down, it's cheaper to run several people's clothes in one machine. It's also how a stranger's new red kurta bleeds onto your white office shirt, and how you get back a shirt that isn't yours. On a wash & iron order, where the whole point is walking-out-the-door-ready formalwear, a colour-transfer accident isn't a minor annoyance that it's a ruined shirt you find at 8am with no time to fix it.
So we don't batch. Your load runs alone. It costs us more and it's the difference between a service you use once and one you use every week.
How wash & iron works
SERVICE GUIDE
Ideal for wash & iron:
- Formal and office shirts - the core of this service
- Cotton trousers, chinos, formal trousers
- Cotton kurtas and kurta-pyjama sets
- Everyday dresses and cotton tops
- School uniforms that need to look sharp
- Anything cotton you want crease-free and on a hanger
- Bulk everyday clothes, towels, bedding you don't need pressed → Wash & Fold is cheaper no point paying to press a towel.
- Structured shirts, fine fabrics, colours that run, precious pieces → Premium Wash for individual handling.
- Silk, wool, blazers, suits, sarees, "dry clean only" → Dry Cleaning. Water and a hot press ruin these.
- Heavily embellished or embroidered wear → dry cleaning. A steam press flattens sequins, zardozi and delicate embroidery.
WHO USES WASH & IRON
Five sharp shirts a week without touching an iron. The single biggest wash & iron audience, and the most loyal once they start nobody who's had a week of hanger-ready shirts goes back to Sunday-night ironing.
The "iron only" crowd. They've done the washing; they just want the pressing handled.
School uniforms that need to look pressed, a household's worth of shirts and cotton wear, kept sharp without anyone spending an evening on it.
Home drying barely works June–September, and home ironing a not-quite-dry shirt just steams the damp around. Controlled drying plus steam pressing is the clean answer.
Wash & iron FAQs
How much does wash and iron cost in Kolkata?
Starts at ₹250 upto 2kgs at The Laundry Boys, weighed dry at pickup roughly more per kilo than wash & fold, which covers the steam pressing. Doorstep collection, separate-load washing, drying, pressing, hangering and delivery are all included, no pickup charge.
What's the difference between wash & iron and wash & fold?
Same wash, different finish. Wash & fold is washed, dried and folded, ideal for everyday clothes, towels and bedding. Wash & iron adds steam pressing and returns your clothes crease-free on hangers, ideal for shirts and formalwear. Wash & iron costs a little more for the pressing labour.
Are my clothes ironed while wet?
No. They're washed, fully dried, and then steam pressed. Steam is applied at the finishing stage to relax and set the fibres on a dry garment, you get your clothes back dry, crisp and ready to wear.
Is it steam ironing or normal ironing?
Steam pressing. Steam relaxes the fibre before pressure is applied, so the finish holds through the day and through Kolkata's humidity unlike a dry home iron, where the crease springs back within the hour.
Are my clothes washed with other people's?
No. Every customer's laundry runs as its own separate load, never batched.
Can I get my clothes ironed only, without washing?
Yes, but it depends on the cloth like it starts with ₹18 per piece for a shirt and goes upto ₹400 for a lehenga or saree and it’s a steam ironing.
How long does it take?
48 hours from pickup, standard. Express is available.
Will you press embroidered or embellished clothes?
Cotton kurtas and everyday wear, yes. But heavy embroidery, sequins and zardozi shouldn't go under a standard press and it flattens them. Those go to dry cleaning, which finishes delicate work by hand.
Is there a minimum order?
Yes, ₹250 / kg per order value or above.
What areas do you cover?
Free doorstep pickup across central, south and east Kolkata plus New Town, Salt Lake and Rajarhat. WhatsApp your pin code if you're unsure.
